Road to Pitas: Embracing Youth

“Road to Pitas: Embracing Youth” is a project by the final year public relations students of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), as a requirement of the Public Relations Counselling Project (PRO652) course. The project is a collaboration of the MC242S5A students with Institut Onn Ja’afar (IOJ) under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr. Kiranjit Kaur. Support will also be pursued from Tabung Amanah Pembangunan Akademik (TAPA) and organizations which are willing to contribute in terms of cash and kind.

This project’s objectives are:

(1) to organize a motivational mentor-mentee programme with Sekolah Kebangsaan Pinapak in Pitas
(2) to support Institut Onn Ja’afar on the #FIXPITAS programme by assisting them with 360 social media campaign
(3) to build relationship and networking between the academia and the media industry through the #FIXPITAS programme
(4) to build entrepreneurship, planning and organizational skills of the students, and (5) to nurture and cultivate volunteerism spirit among youth.

IOJ is currently working on a new project in championing this issue that is called “#FIXPITAS”. “#FIXPITAS” is a campaign to collect funds to help build a 14km road that connects the village to the town. Hence, we will be assisting IOJ in their 360 media campaign focusing on social media and to create visibility of plight of Pitas villagers in Pitas.

Besides assisting IOJ, we will organize our own a one day programme called “Road to Pitas: Embracing Youth” at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pinapak. It will include coordinating the basic needs (clothing/books/stationeries/bags and etc), donation and distribution to the youth, motivational and sharing session as well as sports carnival or also known as sukaneka to boost their confidence and self-esteem.

This project will be organized on the end of November to coincide with the IOJ programme on building the bridges and roads in the Pitas village.

Additionally, the students will also strive to raise funds, including through entrepreneurship, planning and organizational skills. Optimistically, the project would generate the impact of making the Pitas more exciting alongside creating a chance for them to improve their life and economy as well as helping to open up the eyes of Malaysians to channel assistance for them.
